SWINE FLU

Yes the title is correct one of us has swine flu. The dreaded infestation has hit our home. Before this happened I thought, there is no way one of us will get it. I'm always washing hands, giving out vitamins doing all the things my mom taught us to do, and that I am trying to teach my boys to do. Well, those things aren't always in your control. James came home from school on Friday looking kind of grim and unhappy. I asked him if he was OK and he said yes just tired. So we went about our normal things because he didn't have a fever and seemed to be OK. Well, the next morning proved us wrong, he woke up with a fever and went back to sleep in the morning, which is not normal and said he was achy all over. I freaked out really bad washing everything calling the doctor but to my dismay the nurse on the phone at the doctor's office told me not to worry it only lasts as long as the fever does up to a week and he should be back to normal. I thought, OK that doesn't seem bad, and so I said to her, you don't seem to be worried about it and it doesn't seem like a big deal. She just informed me, that it wasn't a big deal. That the hype in the media was making the flu seem a lot worse than it was. She informed me that the people who have been dying from this flu already have preexisting conditions and are more apt to getting pneumonia. or have asthma, and such. And this is the same for the regular flu. She told me that it is just a virus and to watch the symptoms and keep them under control and he should get better. She just informed me to watch his temp and if it got over a certain temp and stayed that way to start giving him Tamaflu. Well, It is Sunday and his temp is down and he seems to be, hopefully on the road to recovery. This just really proved to me that the media is really that bad and no matter what you do you can't control your children from getting sick. It will happen and you just have to be prepared for it.
And honestly, James actually had a strand of flu a few years ago that was WAY worse. It was Influenza B. I had to take him to the emergency room for that one and it lasted A LOT longer. So far this one is pretty mild. So now if you read this post you can now say that you know someone with the swine flu. Hopefully it won't be me next or Austin or Michael!!! Cross your fingers.
