What a week it has been. Michael went to Utah on Sunday to take some pics of family and friends and left me here to tend to the boys. We try really hard to be a tag team, taking care of any of the responsibilities in the house that needs to be done, and taking turns helping the boys. It is great and Michael tries to do as much as he can, so for him not to be here is a really big deal. The house isn't clean, the bed isn't made and I am behind on everything. So on top of feeling a little stress of being behind, James developed a cough over the weekend, so I decided to keep him home on Tuesday after him coming home on Monday and hacking all over us (I didn't want him hacking all over his friends). That night after all day of him barely coughing, we finished getting ready for bed and were going to watch a little show together before we got in bed. I told the boys I was going to go to the bathroom, (yes I know too much information but that is where I was). I heard James starting to hack again like he did on Monday. I didn't think twice of it because after he hacks for a few minutes it passes. Oh, well a couple minutes into the hacking he starts gagging. I yell into the kitchen, "Are you OK James?" He doesn't answer and then a second later comes in with his face pale and sweaty and says, "Mommy I swallowed a gold thing." I start asking him questions, "What gold thing?" Well, he starts to ball uncontrollably and tries to describe it to me. After lots of ?'s we finally figured out that he had put a keychain of mine in his mouth, It was a replica of a widow's mite with a keychain ring on the end that my parents had brought back from Jerusalem for me. Michael had found the boys playing with it the day before and I had set it on the counter and was going to put it away but I forgot. He had put it into his mouth without thinking, (because he is VERY impulsive like that) and didn't think that it would slide down his throat so far. I had just spent the whole day watching him put things in his mouth so to yell at him about it was not the answer. So I decided to try and turn it into a learning experience for him. We talked about it and I told him he needed to remember that this was a hard lesson learned and that he shouldn't do it again. Well, after a few minutes of thinking about what we could do, I decided to call the on call doctor. The nurse answered and told me she would talk to the doctor and then call me back. She called me back and informed me, since we didn't know what it was made out of we needed to take him to the ER and they might be able to do a scope on him. Well, we went and 5 hours later, 2 x-rays, 3 doctors opinions, blood drawn, and a lot of watching the Disney Channel, they sent us home with Miralax and told me I would be poop hunting for the next few days. Yes I know that is way too much information but that is the truth. So no keychain yet, hopefully no lead posioning, and a hard lessoned learned. I found a picture of a keychain that has the similar shape to what he swallowed, the size was almost the size of a coin.
So to make my long story stop, I WANT MICHAEL HOME NOW!!!

WELL, that has been quite a day!! I'm glad that there won't be any surgery or drastic removal efforts! I hope that Michael comes home soon. When does he get home? Would you like a free babysitter so you can have a break to get things done? Let me know! :)
Joanna you crack me up! I love it! Life- huh?
When we drove to Utah, we were somewhere in Idaho just north of the border to Utah, and Lilly started choking. Nick looked in the rear view mirror to see the green gem of the bobby pin from her hair go down her throat!! We made it to Primary Childrens. Same thing- they thought it would do more damage to pull it out from her mouth than to let it come out naturally. I saved the x-ray... and when the bobby pin came out 2 days later I washed it, bagged it, and stapled it to the x-ray:) So let me know if you need a fancy green bobby pin to go with your outfit for church on Sunday:)
Oh by the way!!
When Nick was gone for 10 days just a couple of weeks ago I totally felt the same way. Actually I'll admit I concentrated on getting other things done besides cleaning since my hubby wasn't there to judge;) Anyways Mimi is my VT companion and I asked her hubby to babysit my 3 while we went VTing. We saw 1 in the morning and when I got back they had just been watching TV and eating cookies... COOKIES!? They were supposed to be for Laura when we saw her that evening! So when Andy woke up from his nap we rushed to the store to get more pumpkin, I threw it together and set the kids down with skyline 3ways from a can so they wouldn't notice me disappear. Well Laura wasn't home so when we got back quickly Jeff had done the dinner dishes, had more cookies going in the oven, and when we walked in he had the vacuum out! I didn't notice til later he had also taken out the kitchen garbage! Can you believe it!?
Sorry so long- guess I should have blogged about it myself.
Love ya
Maybe you are a better mom than me because I would have just let him poop it out and call it good! I'm sorry you had to visit the ER by yourself. Matt always happens to be gone for those kinds of events in our family as well. I hope it gets better and that they figure out what is wrong with your back. I tend to have issues with my back as well and I am blaming it on my hefty McIntire boys!
